A variety of support groups are available to the general public and address a wide range of topics. Groups are often free to attend, or request a small donation. They might be in the “12-Step” format, or can also be less structured. Support groups can be a valuable source of information and advice about problems relating to a shared experience.
12 Step Programs
The Twelve Steps, originated by Alcoholics Anonymous, are the spiritual foundation for personal recovery from the effects of alcoholism, not only for the alcoholic but also for their friends and family in Al-Anon Family Groups.
Support for those seeking recovery/sobriety for themselves, or desire support in their ongoing recovery.
Support for those who care about someone who is either in active addiction, early recovery, or long-time recovery.
