Heather Gregan is a treatment provider in the field of mental health and addictions who has a special gift for understanding adolescents and how to motivate them through their recovery process. She comes to the Conversation with ten years of adolescent treatment experience.
Heather started her work with high risk adolescents by volunteering at youth shelters, group homes and consignment shops during her graduate studies at York University in North York, Ontario. She completed her masters and began working in the field as an outpatient counselor and within the same year became the program coordinator for Genesis Centers in Collingswood, New Jersey. She continued her work with adolescents at Rehab After School, Livengrin Foundation and she now currently runs the Light Program in Jenkintown. Heather introduced herself to Be a Part of the Conversation in May, 2011 and she has been an integral part of its development and evolution over the past three years, providing treatment knowledge, resources, and program guidance.
“Through my work in the field I have heard too many stories of isolated parents shrouded by fear of judgment and shame and I have watched too many kids carry that shame through continued self-destructive behaviors and relapse before seeking out recovery. I am passionate about helping families who are impacted by addiction find self-acceptance and a sense of community by removing the barrier of shame often associated with the struggle. Be a Part of the Conversation has provided that platform.”
